About Memory Monitor
The monitor window shows the physical, virtual (swap file) and total memory values, along with a usage graph, making it easy to visualise the memory load. See the FAQ below for more information on interpreting the graph. Download Download Memory Monitor
Additional Downloads If you're running the latest revision of Windows and Internet Explorer, no other files are required. However, if some system components are older versions or you don't run IE, you may need to download some of the following files. Unless specified, the files should be installed in your System directory (Normally, c:\windows\system or c:\winnt\system32).
Installation 1. Unzip the file memmon.exe into the directory of your choice. 2. Create the usual shortcuts for the Start Menu and Desktop as required. If you needed to download any of the additional components, unzip them into your Windows\System directory. FAQ Q: I don't understand what the graph is showing me? A: The horizontal line on the graph indicates the point where physical memory is fully used. While the plot is above that line, there is physical memory free. At the point physical memory is completely used, the plot will drop below the line and show the amount of virtual memory (swap file) in use. Q: How should I interpret the graph? A: Ideally, you should never see the plot fall below the horizontal line. However, in the real world, there will be times when you load so many applications, browser windows, etc. that all physical memory will be used up and Windows will have to resort to swapping to disk. If you see that Memory Monitor shows the line almost constantly below the horizontal line (as shown in the screenshot above) then it may be time to purchase some more RAM for your computer... Q: Can I change the colours used on the graph? A: Yes. To change preferences, right-click the Memory Monitor window caption and select the Preferences option. |
